Inferno: Shadows of New York

They've always existed, in the shadows. Blood drinkers, shapechangers, creatures of mystery and legend. Hidden from the sight of the world somewhere between the daylight and the deeper darkness that contained the true horrors, horrors that stirred, horrors that grew impatient...

Feburary 6th, 2010 the forces of hell invade earth. Demons emerged from portals all over the world, concentrated mostly in the heaviest population centers, Shanghai, Moscow, Tokyo, New York City, and destroying all they saw. The humans fought back, the streets of the world transformed into a brutal warzone, and for the first time in history those from the shadows stepped into the light to help battle their common enemy. Humans went to war alongside werewolves, vampires, sorcerers and templars.

November 17th, 2010. The war ends, the combined forces arrayed against the demons close the doorways and eliminate the stragglers. The world falls back into an uneasy peace as people are reassured that there's no way the demons could return. Promises that ring hollow in their ears as the forces of hell boil and rage, more determined than ever to find a way back to earth. The supernaturals of the world are left out in the open and exposed, unable to return to the shadows, and as people start to forget the horrors of the war more hostility and paranoia is directed towards these barely understood beings. Can they really be trusted? Just how different are they to the things from hell?

Present day. The alliances formed during the war have fallen apart, each group now works on their own to prevent and combat the demonic threat, ostensibly working together even as tensions mount, and hands rarely stray far from weapons. It is a world on the brink, the world of Inferno.
